Week 4:

I spent this week shadowing Probation where I got to look into how the whole department works, as well as the different probation methods that they oversee like GPS tracking, OUI prevention classes, and various payments and community service. I was able to sit in the courtroom again but this time with more focus on Probation's role in everyday sessions.

Overall, my internship at the Concord District Court has taught me not only about what goes on in a Courthouse and a Law-type profession but also about myself. While I don’t see myself becoming an attorney or working in a Clerk’s office, the skills that I have gained these past few weeks like organization and attentiveness will surely travel well to my future career in Business. I have learned that I truly need to speak up more and to be more organized because it is how the Courthouse, and any business, is able to function.

On that topic, some words of advice that I have for future interns is to really speak up and ask questions. There have been moments where I have felt like there is nothing for me to do so I’ll try to make an effort to ask if there is anything that I can help with. Sometimes the person I’m with will say no, so I will ask them to tell me about what it is they are doing or a question about another aspect of their job. It is by asking questions that I have been able to really learn a lot.
