In my first week, I learned about what it is like to be an art therapist. Jamie told me about her experience as a therapist and included stories of situations I may come across in the field. Jamie and I did a few exercises together, including meditation, magazine collaging, and reading. This first week also included a lot of problem solving. We have started brainstorming how to create multiple “SOS groups” and how to market them to the right audience. Jamie and I also interviewed her daughter and my sister on what worries them as middle school girls. We have been collecting information to make the most beneficial tasks for our incoming middle school group.

The work environment, as it is just Jamie and I right now, is rather casual. Confidentiality is an extremely important role in therapy, however, that is not "casually" enforced. Though I have not worked with any patients yet, Jamie and I have discussed the importance in confidentiality. I really admire that Jamie runs her studio independently. This is inspiring me to learn more about how she made this opportunity for herself, so that I can do the same someday.

Jamie provides support to many different groups of people.
