Overall, my time at gaining ground was quite enjoyable and fulfilling.

My favorite thing about farming is that I can see the impact of every bit of work I do. Whether it's weeding, bed prep, planting, cultivating, setting up irrigation, covering crops, etc, every task I complete changes the landscape in very visible ways, and it feels like I am making a difference. Further, coming back day after day, I can notice the plants growing and changing - the carrots that were once little white beads with stems are now big, orange, and very tasty.

 

The hardest parts of the internship were the early mornings, hot days, and the pollen everywhere.
