Frist Day

My internship at Gentuity started on Tuesday, March 19, after school. That day I went to the office and Candace helped me get set up by giving me a laptop with most of the files I would be using already stored in it. After I logged into my laptop and created a password I was lead to the meeting room where I was met with two other female interns, Giovanni who is the director of Gentuity, and Zach who helps with the computer software. During the meeting Giovanni went over what we would be doing and how to understand the images we would be working with. Zach helped us download the Genshi program and transfer 16 large files to it. After two hours we were able to start our work.

What Do I Do?

At my internship I go through a sliced up video of a camera going through a blood vessel and label or check off whatever I see in each slide. Each of the 16 videos varies from 200 slices to 510 slices. The first video I worked on was called "Pullback 3". At first it seemed simple since all I saw in the first 100 slides were just the catheter and guide wire which were easy to identify. I also had to adjust the lumen which is suppose to be a large circular shape with everything inside of it. When I got to the middle of the pullback it started to get a little bit difficult. There were side branches of the vessels that I had to identify and circle and the lumen was hard to distinguish since the slice was too bloody and was low quality. It took some time to go through the slices and there were around 70 of them. After 3 days working 3 hours each day I was able to complete my first pullback of 508 slices and was ready to start my next one.

What Is The Company Like?

The company is a medical imaging company. I hope to learn more and the work I am doing right now doesn't seem too difficult, but it is very interesting to me.

After going to the office for a few days I realized it was a more business casual type of environment which is great. I really enjoy how welcoming and friendly everyone is at the office. They are also flexible with our internship hours which is helpful for my AP classes. Candace, Giovanni, and Zach have been extremely helpful and it's easy to approach them for help or ask any questions.
