Week 3 Prompts:

  • Describe what you accomplished at your internship this week. Be specific in describing the knowledge you have gained and the skills you have developed.

    • One of the primary assignments we did this week consisted of going through a bunch of bank statements and tax forms and sorting them into categories. Since Brown Aviation Lease has many clients that are leasing aircraft, we have to take the documents and look for the "tail number" that distinguishes every plane and put it into it's assigned file. Even between Henry, Peter, and I, there were still some files that we weren't sure where to put, although after asking a few questions and checking all the possible tabs, we were able to figure out where it all went.

  • Discuss a difficult, challenging and/or awkward situation you faced at your internship and describe how you handled it. What have you learned from this experience?

    • Over the course of my time here I have encountered quite a few situations in which I wasn't sure how to handle. Ascend, their other insurance company is always looking to create solutions and niche products that appeal to certain markets. So one of the assignments we had to do was create a chart that contained quotes and prices from other insurance companies in an attempt to correlate some of the common trends in the drone insurance industry. Neither I nor any of the other interns had worked on projects like this so it certainly made for a difficult but meaningful experience.

  • How is your internship changing your impression of your career field/industry as a whole?

    • I had always thought companies like Ascend had to follow very cookie cutter rules and wouldn't extend or spill over into other markets but I have found this to be false. Just being in the office I hear my supervisors discussing how they want to tackle certain situations and are looking into new insurance opportunities. I think it makes it a lot more interesting seeing that there is more freedom through which a business can run than I had thought.
