My time interning at Second Chance Cars has taught me a lot about myself, as well as the nonprofit industry as a whole. For example, I spent a lot of my time learning about the behind-the-scenes aspects that go into running a nonprofit, such as applying for grants, the recipient selection/approval process, and the role played by the board. I was also introduced to the Community of Goodness, which references all of the people that come together in order to make a car award possible. Behind every Second Chance Cars award is a donor, vocational school, and nonprofit partner organization that comes together in order to help a low-income veteran or returning citizen turn their lives around. My tip for future interns would definitely be to focus on asking questions. An internship is meant to be a learning experience, and nobody is expecting you to know everything, so don't be afraid to ask questions and learn more about the industry.
