I am super happy now that I have been placed in Alcott Elementary School.  The most challenging aspect of interning is keeping up with first graders energy.  In my class we have 6, 7, and 8 year olds.  They all have more energy than all the highschoolers combined!  Sometimes is it hard to keep a conversation with them or to get their attention since they always have so much to say.  This being said, sometimes working at an elementary school can be hectic.  I really enjoy the chaos though, since I am someone with a lot of energy and therefore I can handle the first graders!  I really love the way Mrs. Curley runs our classroom.  She is strict and loving at the same time, and she really teaches the children valuable lessons.  She is really strict about not talking over others, keeping the room organized, and making sure every child does their best work.  In contrary she also likes to have fun, and the kids have lots of one on one reading time, time for projects, and time to write on their own in their journal.  One new thing that I have learned about this company is that you have to make sure you check in with the children during the lessons.  For example during the math lessons or writing lessons you need to make sure all of the kids are on the same page.  It is easy for the kids to get side tracked, or even for some kids to learn a lot slower or faster than the others.  It is important to check in with each individual (which can be hard with 18 kids) and to make sure they are caught up.  And if they are not caught up, you must spend a little extra time with them and go over things slower.  Overall it was a great second week!
