Monday- April 1st:

I arrive at City Hall Plaza at 8:34AM sharp with 26 minutes to kill. I head over to the nearby Cafe and take a seat. Anxiously, I bounce my leg back up and down as I wonder what on earth I am getting myself into. 20 minutes eventually sweeps by for what seems like an eternity, and I charge over to City hall. Passing through security, I take a seat at the downstairs cafe. I soon am met by my supervisor, Jess. Gingerly, I hop out of my seat and quickly transcend into the world of politics- left and right, I see men and women who look like they just walked out of a J CREW ad. I am in awe.

I soon meet Jess' co-workers- Malaika, Karen, Meghan, Esther, and of course, Annissa.

Soon, I meet my schoolmate Jaianah and we are given a tour and guideline of all the specifications that our job may entail- the meetings, the different people we may meet, etc. Overwhelming is an emotion that presented in us- to say the least. Nevertheless, we were eager to begin.

Annissa is Council Woman at-large and focuses much of her work on Boston Public Schools. In preparation for her hearing next Tuesday on Madison Park Technical Vocational High School, I researched facts about Madison. Madison is a school that is suffering due to severe underfunding along with many other factors, and we are fighting to bring the school back to what it once was. I researched statistics, important documents, and questions that are still left unanswered. Most importantly, I found ourselves still asking: Why has Madison been left to rot?
