WEEK 2

Week two was an exciting and engaging week in Ms. Henry’s first-grade class. Some of the activities include: the book character parade, a field trip, and a reward PJ day on Friday! In addition to all these fun activities, I was able to lead a math game and continue to work with students individually during reading and writing time.

Throughout the week, I spent a lot of time working with students individually during writing, reading, and math time. During those times, I walk around the class and find students who might need a little extra help and work with them. During writing, they are working on persuasive letters to their parents. They first write a draft and then they write a final copy. During this time I help students generate ideas or check over their draft for spelling mistakes or general writing revisions. Some students have started asking me how to spell words and collecting the sticking notes I write them on. Overall the students have become comfortable asking me questions and working with me. During center reading time, Ms. Henry has started assigning me specific groups to work with. I either read with them and help them answer questions or just have them read to me. During math, I was able to lead a Bingo game that involved time and clocks. When they work independently, I sit with a few students and guide them through the packet or have them ask me questions.

On Tuesday, the librarian held the Book Character Parade for the entire school. On this day, all the students and teachers dressed up as their favorite book character and everyone paraded around the school. On Thursday, our class took a field trip to Ripley to the STEAM lab. The students were able to work with their classmates and make cool projects. As a reward for a good behavior and work ethic throughout the last few weeks the students were allowed to wear PJs and bring stuffed animals to school and we watched a movie in the afternoon. Overall, the second week has been a lot of fun and I am getting to know the students and Ms. Henry very well.
