WEEK 6

During the last full of week of my internship, there were many great opportunities and learning experiences. My week started out with a field trip to the Butterfly Place on Monday. The students have been studying caterpillars and butterflies for a few weeks now, so this trip allowed them to be surrounded by hundreds of these fascinating creatures. In our class, we have our own Painted Lady butterflies, so the students have been watching their cycle. This week they finally became butterflies!

On Monday, I also taught a dance to the class as a request from one of the students. In the previous weeks, the students had an assignment to write persuasive letters to Ms. Henry about something they wanted to do as a class or something they wanted the class to have. One boy wrote that he wanted Ms. Stevenson to teach the class a dance. It was a fun experience for everyone because I got to teach something that I love to do and the students love to dance and sing in general.

Throughout the week I continued to administer spelling tests to small groups of students. This was good practice trying to keep a small group focused. Also, it was just a good way to interact with the students in a different setting. Usually, I am teaching them a fun math lesson or playing a game with them, but now I am giving a test. Some students were confident others got worried and nervous, so it was great practice to giving encouragement but difficult to not say anything when they needed help or did not know the answer.

Overall, week six went smoothly and I have become extremely comfortable and confident in this environment and cannot wait to start studying early childhood education in college! This has been a wonderful experience!
