This week at my internship I have continued to make flyers, but have branched out to other tasks as well. My supervisor also teaches at other surrounding studios, so I am looking forward to visiting other studios as well to learn about how they run things. This week I dove into more of the business side of things. My supervisor allowed me to work with her as she went through her monthly expenses. Paying rent, other bills, and paying employees are all things she has to do each month, and she does it all herself. She also has to keep track of all her credit card bills, because some of them are considered business expenses if they were for something for the studio or her business. A big thing I learned from all this is organization is key. To keep her studio running smoothly, she has to record every monetary move she makes and keep track of everything.

One situation I faced was that one day, I overslept and woke up realizing I might be late for my internship. At first, I panicked a little bit because to me, being late to an internship/job is much more serious than just being late to school. However, I texted my supervisor to let her know right away, and she appreciated my honesty and that I did not make excuses and she was totally understanding. Although I ended up being only ten minutes late, I learned to always be upfront and honest with your boss (and to always make sure your alarms are set!)

Based off of this internship so far, I have questioned my interest in this field. After doing some work with, and learning about, the business and administration of owning a studio, I've found that I am generally more interested in what goes on inside the studio: the teaching, the dancing/fitness, etc. I understand that obviously, you cannot have one without the other, but I am not as intrigued by the business of it all as I thought I would be, and I am surprised to learn that about myself!
