The most rewarding activity I completed this week was finally finishing a longterm project that I had been working on for a few weeks. My supervisor had asked me to make information cards for a session of classes she was teaching, and she needed certain cards for certain classes. This originally required me to make fourteen information cards, but over the course of me working on them, it had changed to twenty-one. Between figuring out the format, gathering the information, and managing to logistically fit it all on a half-legal sheet, each of these cards took a while to make. I finally completed all of these cards this week and it felt good to cross such a big project off my list.

Like I experienced earlier during week three, I have learned that the best way to deal with stressful situations is to be honest with your supervisor and prioritize your assignments. For example, this week I found myself in a position where I was unsure if I was going to be able to complete a certain project by the deadline I had been given. It was nearing the date of one of the classes and I was still working on creating the necessary card, as well as a few other simultaneous projects. I decided to prioritize finishing the card, which required putting the other projects on hold for a day or so. Ultimately I found that this was the right decision because I was able to complete all of my tasks on time.

At this point in my internship, I have definitely learned from my supervisor the importance of organization and self-motivation. For someone who runs their own business completely by themselves, it is up to them to make sure that they get everything that needs to be done, done. This often means having to finish work at home (such as payroll, taxes, or research/preparations for classes) and picking up extra slack (like being the sub for a class when a teacher can't come in). Because there is no one above you giving you instructions or reminding you to get things done, it is completely up to you to stay on task and make sure everything gets done to keep the business running smoothly. This sense of independence and self-reliance in the work field is a skill that I have acquired during my internship.
