week 2

This week I felt like a real employee. I didn't have any trainings or introductory meetings, so I worked very independently. I continued with my web design project which caused me quite a bit of frustration this week. I couldn't figure out how to make a label and a radio button appear in line in my code. Even after getting help from my mentor, we couldn't figure it out, so I felt very useless. However, on Wednesday I eventually worked it out, and everything started to come together. Since I knew that I wouldn't be working this week due to April vacation, I wanted to get as much done as possible, but a big chunk of my time was spent debugging the problem above. So, on Thursday and Friday, I put in extra hours to compensate. I played around a lot with CSS, which is styling, and made my website a lot more visually appealing. I was able to get ahold of the MITRE branding RGB colors and applied these to my buttons, text, and backgrounds. This gave the website a much more professional and cohesive feeling, which I was happy about after an annoying start to my week.

Working remotely continues to have its ups and downs. For one, it is nice to be able to work my own hours and shape my day around my schedule. As long as I put in my four hours and attend my meetings, my bosses don't really care when I work. However, it'd be nice to finally put a face to a voice and meet some of my co-workers. I'd like to also explore the office and have a more corporate experience. Hopefully, though, I'll be able to go into the office at some point this summer and finally meet everyone!
