week 4

It is noontime on a Thursday and I just wrapped up the fourth week of my internship. I am taking tomorrow and next Monday and Tuesday off because I have AP exams and need to prep.

This week was much like last week but a little less frustrating. I've got the basic format and structure of the site down now, so much of my work is just copying, pasting, and changing little things like variable names, input types (ex. a radio button to a text box or a checkbox). I also began researching server and database frameworks for the web, like Django and VueJS. We're eventually going to have a login for sponsors so that they can start the form and then come back and finish it later or change their information later down the line. Because of this, we need a database to keep track of login credentials and inputs. This is uncharted territory for me and even my supervisor, so I'm looking forward to it but expecting a steep learning curve. However, I'm really interested in this and excited to get away, albeit briefly, from the tediousness and monotony of traditional web design.

Finally, beyond the technical side of things, this week was really the first time I did not conform to my 8-12 work day. I had a lot going on with school and personal things, so I really spread out my work. Yesterday I did 6 hours and today just did two. I think this is definitely one of the pros of working from home and certainly something I appreciate-- so long as you don't have meetings, you can shape your hours, and MITRE is very encouraging of this.
