week 5

This was another short week at MITRE. Because of my Calculus exam on Tuesday, I did not work then nor the Monday before. Thus, I only worked three days.

I had mixed feelings about this week. My mentor and I met with a developer virtually on Wednesday and discussed the website/reactive form that I am building. After much deliberation, we concluded that the best way to move forward was to largely abandon the work that I had done, and instead start over using Django, a web framework conducive to database retrieval, which is written in Python.

On Thursday morning, my mentor and I had to meet with my department head to get the "OK" to move ahead with DJango. She approved it, so I dove right in Thursday and Friday. There was a bit of a hiccup during the installation process because the MITRE firewall would not allow the download, so I had to contact tech support, but afterwards I was able to get started on this new phase.

While I am frustrated that all the work that I've done so far has somewhat gone to waste, I am much more comfortable with Python, so I hope there is less of a learning curve than with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I also learned a lot about web design over the past few weeks, something that I had really never dabbled in before, so I am grateful for the experience.
