week 6

It is hard to believe that the school sponsored portion of my internship is coming to a close, and that I am done with the academic side of high school as of Thursday!

I only worked Monday and Tuesday this week because I was the DJ for the Senior Sign Drop-Off, so I have been largely occupied with that this week. However, I have started to make headway in DJango, and it has come much quicker to me because it is in Python. Right now, I have really just been setting up a virtual environment to run the framework in, and have created my first "App" using the documentation on the Django website. The documentation, which outlines functions, classes, etc, is very thorough and helpful. I also realized that I will be able to salvage some of the front end development that I had worked on previously, so my work from weeks prior has not totally gone to waste!

One thing that I am excited to get into is the data entry and database side of things with Django. This is something I've never done any work with before, but it interests me and will be another useful skill to add to my resume. Even though school ends Thursday, MITRE offered me a summer position so I will start up again June 1st. I am super excited and appreciative-- I know that many people have lost jobs and internships this summer due to the virus! I am also very thankful for Ms. Fortunato, her persistence in finding me this position, and her willingness to adapt and move forward with the internship when the pandemic hit back in March. Many thanks to everyone who made this internship possible!
