Tasks for week 1:

This week I started out with a bit of shadowing but quickly I began to hold dogs and cats for appointments.  On Monday it was apparently a busy day and had many more appointments than a normal day, which I learned over the following days.  I was there from 1-5 on Monday which was after lunch to when they closed, so at the end of the day, I mopped the floor and helped everyone get everything straightened up to close. As the week progressed I was asked to hold especially dogs for longer appointments or sit with a pet while waiting for the doctor.  Wednesday and Thursday ended a bit harder with a pet being put down before I left and then starting the day with another the following day.  But I was able to watch and help the doctor by handing him things as needed.

Work Environment & What I like about working at Domino Vet

My work environment is more on the casual side even though the job itself is serious the environment and community is more of a big friend group that happens to do this one job. I have to wear scrubs when I go and comfortable shoes since I'm on my feet for most of the day. It overall is laid out with a lobby area with a desk and then there are 4 appointment rooms that just have a metal table, a sink, and a computer, and then in the back, there are more exam tables.  There's also a surgery room and an x-ray room, and in a section of the back, there's an area called the lab where all the medication is kept, along with vaccines.

Overall I have really liked working at Domino, it's a good group of people and a lot of people ride so we can talk horses. I have gotten some inside on different directions to go in college and heard different people's stories on how they got to this field. Everyone is very supportive of everybody else and everyone continues to learn which I saw in even some of the people that have been there for years.
