Makayla Francois

My name is Makayla Francois, and I am a graduating senior from Concord Carlisle Highschool (CCHS). I plan to continue my undergraduate education at either Emory or Harvard University for fall 2021. Then, continue to my master's or Ph.D. degree.  I hope to become an advocate for healthcare equity by becoming a nurse that provides exceptional healthcare to those who fall through the healthcare system's cracks and actively working on improving health policy.

I am interning with the senior director of Healthy Lifestyles for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB), where I research for a BGCB project on Health Equity & Covid-19. My tasks consist of attending various virtual community conversations held by hospitals and organizations working to provide information about the Covid vaccines. I note whether these events are accessible and if the information applies to diverse populations. I will also be doing extensive research on the different vaccines to answer questions for others and reaching out to hospitals and organizations to have accessible testing sites for people in the Boston area.

My goal is to learn more about how to reach health equity through public health and health policy to give back to my community and apply these skills to my future healthcare career.
