This week in my internship I got experience with a few new aspects of Fitness Together. I got to see how a workout plan is put together and how it is designed to cater to what the client wants to get out of personal training. I also learned that there are a lot of other elements that contribute to a client's ability to reach their goals such as sleep and nutrition and that Fitness Together helps them improve those areas too. I also got a little experience with the business side. I learned about the system Fitness Together uses, PNL, what it means to be part of a franchise, etc. It was interesting to see how much money had to be taken away each month to pay the employees, taxes, utility fees, franchise, wifi, etc.

I found that a more difficult part of my internship was understanding the business side of the company. I had never had experience with the system used and the words and terms used in a business, so it was a bit confusing to me at first, but as things were explained in more detail, everything started making more sense and it seemed almost a bit intuitive. I learned that graphs and terms upfront usually seem more confusing than they actually are.

My internship experience has changed my impression of the small business fitness industry. Before, I didn’t realize how many elements are necessary for success. There not only has to be good connections between the trainer and client, but also a good management of money. The trainers also must have lots of education and knowledge. Being successful and making money is difficult with any small business, but especially in the fitness industry because there are many bigger gyms and workout classes that are very well known.
