The internship has taught me a lot about myself and the fitness industry as a whole. I have learned the importance of having good relationships with both coworkers and clients and how the quality of these relationships can affect the atmosphere of the business. Not only is the environment affected by relationships and interactions, but the social component to personal training is arguably just as important as the quality of the actual workouts. Having good relationships with clients also creates a good reputation for the business which makes it more successful. I’ve also learned how important it is to have systems of organization and scheduling in place and how it can make things much more orderly and easier to manage. I have learned that things are always changing and improving in terms of fitness and working out, so it is important to be open to learning more and altering the ways things are done. I was taught about getting into the Fitness industry and specifically becoming a personal trainer and before I didn't realize how difficult it was and how many years of school it takes. I also wasn’t aware of how difficult it is to make a good living in this industry.

An internship tip for the future interns is to be prepared to interact with a wide range of people. There is a big variety in the fitness levels, personalities, and working out styles of all the clients, so you have learned to adapt to the situation quickly. Another tip for future interns would be to try to be actively engaged with the client and workout sessions by asking questions. An interns can learn a lot by really applying themself.
